A Plastic Free World to Save The Planet

It seems like every day the global crisis regarding plastic waste is mentioned. The message is getting louder and people are finally sitting up and taking notice. And while this is a good thing, is it too late?

Plastic is a Man Made Problem

Generally, nature works in unison. The things that exist have been created naturally with evolution. Plastic was created by man and while plastic makes everyone’s life easier the issue regarding waste has been forgotten, until recently.

Developed in the early 1900’s, plastic is material consisting of any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds that are malleable and so can be molded into solid objects. Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass and often contain other substances. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals. The success and dominance of plastics starting in the early 20th century led to environmental concerns regarding its slow decomposition rate after being discarded as trash due to its composition of large molecules. Toward the end of the century, one approach to this problem was met with wide efforts toward recycling.

The Future? A Plastic Free Life and World

Unless a solution can be found to reduce plastic waste and clean up the environment the future looks bleak, especially in our oceans. But not all is lost. Around the World business leaders are focusing energy into biodegradable plastics and plastic free solutions. An example of this is the Plastic Free World Conference & Expo in Germany in June 2020.

The web site says “the Plastic Free World Conference & Expo is a two-day conference and exhibition for businesses looking to reduce their plastic consumption, find and source highly sustainable alternative bio-based materials, and create a more circular economy throughout their supply chain. The event will bring together sustainability and environmental experts to discuss practical and innovative solutions to tackle the growing plastic pollution crisis. Business leaders from key industries including packaging, food and beverage, retail, fashion and textiles, automotive, and aerospace will discuss and debate the latest research, sustainable product design, new manufacturing solutions, recycling and reuse of products and raw materials, as well as the latest and next-generation bio-sourced materials and solutions to create 100% biodegradable, reusable, and compostable products”
